Today is Gauri Tritya which is dedicated to Goddess Gauri \Paravati the wife of Lord Shiva. It is said that Goddess Gauri \Parvati worshipped Lord Shiva very hard in order to have Lord Shiva as her husband.
It was on this pious day that Lord Shiva agreed to marry Godesss Gauri\Parvati and after this day is celebrated as Gauri Tritya every year.

On this day the unmarried women prays to Goddess Gauri\Parvati in order to get the good husbands which should resembles the lord Shiva.
 

Details

This day is celebrated mainly in Kashmir (India), Maharashtra, Chennai & Andhra Pradesh.
In Kashmir it is celebrated in the pious month of magha which usually falls in January every year were as in rest of India it is celebrated in march-april every year.

Also on this pious day one of the greatest saints of Kashmir the great yogi & saint Swami Nand lal Ji Maharaj attained salvation and was united with supreme thee. This day is celebrated simultaneously at Tikkar (Kupwara Kashmir India), Hushroo (Kashmir, India) and Mast Ashram Jammu & Delhi respectively. On this auspicious day the Hawans(Yagnya) are being performed to pay the tribute to this great saint.
